How to Plan a Matching Gift Program With Your Employer
Many reputable companies offer their employees the opportunity through payroll or pension deductions to give to their favorite nonprofit organization. While some companies have company-to-employee matching ratios as high as 3:1, most companies offer a 1:1 match. A few companies match a fractional amount such as 0.2:1 or 0.5:1. This is a good way to make your dollars go further and double or triple the impact of your donation to Child Foundation at no additional expense to you. If your employer participates in a matching gift program, your company will match the contributions donated by you to Child Foundation.
Here's how you can take advantage of these opportunities:
Step 1) As each company has its own guidelines; please contact your Human Resource or Payroll Department for details on your company’s program.
Step 2) Ask for their matching fund or donation guidelines and a list of eligible charities that they recognize for matching funds. If you do not find Child Foundation on that list, ask them what the criteria are in order to get on the list. Child Foundation is member of Independent Charities of America (recipient of its highest standard: Best Seal of Excellence), Guidestar (Recipient of its highest standard: GOLD Participant Member), Charity Without Boarders, United Nations Association of the United States of America, and recognized by President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Step 3) If they ask for additional information or documents or if they need us to fill out a form, please contact Child Foundation and we will provide them with all necessary information or documentation. Once their forms have been received, Child Foundation will notify your company to ensure that their matching gift goes directly to Child Foundation.
Step 4) Many companies announce their matching gift opportunities around the holidays. This is a great time to introduce Child Foundation to those co-workers who want to donate for a worthy cause.
Step 5) Make a decision about the amount and frequency of your donation and fill out the necessary forms to ensure that the match is donated too.
Step 6) Ask your company if a different giving method such as credit card, check or direct deduction from your check, or even volunteering will result in different matching levels.
Step 7) Contact Child Foundation to let them know to expect checks will be coming from your company.
