"Education is freedom." - Paulo Freire
As Nelson Mandela said, education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Upon discovering the Child Foundation and their mission to help underprivileged students stay in school and achieve their educational goals, I was amazed and humbled to play a role in helping these kids pursue their dreams of brighter futures.
For my first ever marathon, I trained for a relatively short time of six months, or 112 days. Over 573 miles, and countless hours of effort later, I was ultimately able to run the 26.2 mile marathon in Chicago. Although deeply satisfied by this outcome, I felt a void that went unfulfilled even after I ran the distance. Most of my fellow runners (as I discovered immediately prior to the race) were running for a deeper purpose – a cause, charity or a loved one, near and dear to their heart – that they dedicated their run to, by raising funds and spreading awareness.
To that end, I have begun a campaign to raise awareness and funds to knock down the barriers that keep kids from getting a good education in countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and Tajikistan. Please join me in assisting the Child Foundation with achieving their mission of helping these kids between today, till we can raise $26,200 as a symbol of a marathon distance.
