Sohrab Emami

In loving memory of Dr. Sohrab Emami-Neyestanak who left us way too soon. He was not only a brilliant mind with seminal contributions to advanced engineering systems, but also a caring, wonderful son, brother, friend, and leader.

Sohrab had an insatiable curiosity for science and engineering that led him to pursue Electrical Engineering at the most prestigious academic institutions: B.S. from Sharif University of Technology, M.S. from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Ph.D. from University of California Berkeley.

He was the recipient of multiple awards including the Jack Raper Award for Outstanding Technology Directions Paper at ISSCC 2004 and the Hitachi-UC Berkeley Management of Technology Fellowship in 2003. He represented Iran at the International Physics Olympiad in 1990.

As an entrepreneur with an inventive and creative mind, he immersed himself in transforming smart mathematical and engineering ideas into elegant products. He co-founded two startups, Kara Systems Inc. in Iran, and SiBeam, Inc. in Silicon Valley prior to joining Apple where he led a dynamic team of talented engineers in California and beyond.

He was a kind and generous soul who inspired many people and touched many lives during his short life.

Dr. Emami is an example of the drive and passion we aspire to see in our sponsored children. We are profoundly grateful for the life he lived and the beautiful memory he leaves behind. Donations will support children in our programs at his family’s discretion.
