Mitra lost her father a year ago, leaving her mother and the three children in deep financial trouble. Due to social pressures, her mother works at home. She sells her embroidery. Her family and grandmother live in a small rented room at the end of her uncle’s backyard. They share a backyard bathroom. They do not own a refrigerator or a washing machine, only a television. Their heater requires fuel which they cannot afford.

Mitra wants to go to school but her mother needs help supporting her education so that she has a brighter future for herself, her family, and her community. Still, he works wherever, whenever he can, often in coal mines. Farzaneh’s mother works for a carpet weaving company, bringing home a low income. The family of seven live in an old home with two rooms, no kitchen, and a ceiling-less bathroom. Repairs are needed but are too costly. They have a heater in one room to tolerate the cold winters and use that heater for cooking.

Asra is 13 years old and in sixth grade. Asra lives in Bam, Iran. She is a smart and talented student. Because her family was poor, Asra’s mother had to marry a man with a good socio-economic status. Later she realized that he suffers from mental illness. He was increasingly abusive to her and the children. For the sake of her children, she asked for a divorce. She will receive her alimony but in four-month installments over the next few years. Thankfully, he also pays monthly child support to the children. Asra’s mother, with her two children, went to live with her widowed grandmother and their financial situation was unstable. Her mother must provide for her family with a very low income as a housekeeper.

Both of Haadi's parents are unable to work and struggle to rise to the challenges of life due to mental disabilities. Haadi's cousin has taken charge of the family. Haadi has a sister and an older brother, both of whom are married and living independently. They received help from relatives to provide for Haadi's sister. Haadi lives with his parents in an old, one-room house. Recently, part of the house was rebuilt with the help of a charity's loan. Unfortunately, the work is half-finished, but the family cannot afford the remaining costs. They have no source of income and receive income only through government subsidies and a small stipend from a charity. 

Haadi is clearly talented and motivated to do well in life, but he needs your support to get the necessary tools in school to succeed. After reviewing Haadi's opportunities, motivation, and needs, Child Foundation has granted him a $20/month scholarship.

She lost her father about two years ago in the war against the Taliban and her now family struggles. Diba’s mother is a janitor in a wedding venue but has a low income. She tries to bring the leftovers from dinners held in the venue sometimes to save on some of their living expenses. Diba’s older brother is in 6th grade and works part-time  for very little to buy books and notebooks for his own classes. Diba has two other brothers. They live in an old house which they rented with a relative’s help. They only have one heater in the house which they use for cooking and heating water.

The eldest brother, Erfan is 13 and the only breadwinner for their family. Setaiesh’s two eldest sisters were forbidden to go to school but finally are enrolled now. The family’s only income comes from Erfan though he is so young himself.

Shida is 16 years old and in ninth grade. She is a cancer survivor who lives with her family in Oshnaviyeh, Iran. Since childhood, she has been fighting leukemia. At the beginning of her treatment, Shida went to the hospital once a week, but now she goes to a hospital in Urmia once every six months for tests and treatment. Sida also has a heart condition and is receiving treatment. Fortunately, Shida’s twin sister is healthy. Her father is also a seasonal day laborer and does not have much income. Therefore, they have problems to continue their treatment and travel to Urmia. This family couldn’t pay rent and had to move into their grandfather's house, which was newly built. Three years ago, Shida’s grandfather sold it and again the family had to find a rental. They are currently living in a relative's house so that they can find a house with a reasonable rent. It should be noted that the family is supported by no charity.

The family lives in a two-room basement with no kitchen or proper bathroom. The family does not have an air conditioner, fridge, washing mashing, rug, beds, or good kitchenware.
