Nan

Nan is 14 years old and in 8th grade. He currently lives with his parents and two siblings in Siem Reap, Cambodia. His father is a construction worker, and his mother sells groceries in the village. He has to travel 8 km to get to school every day like his friends. The same as other students that we currently have in our program, Nan’s family also needs financial support especially for his school materials, uniform, and food for his lunch break. They were affected by COVID-19 and lost a big amount of income. In his free time, Nan helps his parents with housework, feeding pigs and chickens. He sometimes cooks for his family or rides a bicycle with his friends. In the future, he wants to be a soldier.

Fatema

Fatema is eight years old and has finished first grade. She is from Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan. She is funny and very smart. She is interested in painting and dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. Her father was killed while serving in the ANA five years ago. Her mother remarried. Her stepfather is the guardian of a sister and two brothers of his own, too. He is unemployed now. Their house has a room and a place for shoes and no electricity. The family is not in a good financial position and suffers from a lack of food and nutrition. 

Fatema’s continued education requires support from a sponsor who can help take some of the financial burdens off her shoulders.  To best meet the needs of our Iranian students amidst US sanctions, the sponsor of this child will be a cosponsor alongside a sponsor from inside Iran to form a stable cosponsorship. Each month the child’s family will receive food from our sponsor and a small stipend from the Iran sponsor.
